hitRECord update

So, tonight I went on to hitRECord to see if there was any feedback of the first collaboration I participated in and sure enough someone had edited a video of this girl Lydia who is pretty awesome and used the song I posted! And then tonight it was on the featured page! The original guitar part was great, and my noise track is just sorta that, but I worked really hard to get it to sound the way I wanted, so I’m really proud of that. It’s just really cool that someone likes it.

So a couple weeks ago JonnyGotham (or Jon, one of my best friends) showed me this site hitRECord.org which is an online community of creatives collaborating on a wide array of projects from film to books to music. I lurked around for a few days before deciding to join, in the hopes that I would be able to really make a significant contribution to someone’s project. So I uploaded some bits of music I’ve been sitting on for a couple years, and last night I contributed to someone’s collaboration. I don’t know if the person who started the collaboration will be into what I did, but I hope so. we’ll see

Just read a post and I disagree with some things that were said, so…

“i’m really not a fan of instagram because it makes everyone think they’re a photographer…

so many things these days take away from the seriousness of photography as an art form and it’s frustrating.”

Alright, how to approach this without saying “You are everything that is wrong with the world.”

1. Why does someone else with a camera on their phone and a program that adds effects take away from you as a “serious photographer”?

2. Why do you care if someone takes a picture they think looks cool with the aforementioned camera and program and posts it because they like it?

3. Why does a better understanding of how aperture works make you a “serious photographer”?

Maybe that camera and program is their introduction to photography and they figure out that they love it, and they get really into it, and learn all the particulars

Maybe they don’t, maybe they just saw something they thought would look cool, took a picture and were proud that it came out looking cool

“it’s about expression, drama, composition, and so much more.”

It’s about capturing something that speaks to you, for whatever reason, and preserving it.

Stop being such an elitist, there is room in the world for serious photographers and less serious photographers, their photos don’t make yours less legitimate, and your knowledge doesn’t make theirs less beautiful.

Cycle For Survival

Before I get into the point of this and what this means and why this is important, I want to explain my personal connection to this. If you’ve ever heard me talk about how I got into hardcore, you’ve heard the story of my first Hatebreed show at The Chance in Poughkeepsie and the girl who introduced me to a genre of music that was more intense and urgent than anything I had ever heard. Well, I’d like to formally introduce you to my very good friend Shanna Scalzo, besides being solely responsible for my love of hardcore, she is a nurse and still a huge supporter of me and a fan of With The Punches. So this year when she told me that she would again be participating in the Cycle For Survival event (she rode last year as well), I asked if it would be OK for my to write a little bit about it on my blog and the bands, in the hopes of helping her and her team meet and exceed their goals. She gave me the OK and here I am, again, trying not to beg for money, but asking that if you have something to spare, this is a pretty great cause and I am extremely proud of my friend for participating and being so dedicated to it.
